Heavyweight Title Pretender
The DeSantis camp is sees no bump in the polls or rise in favorability following their campaign launch debacle last week as Donald Trump surges with his focus set on the GOP nomination
Since announcing his candidacy and kicking off his presidential campaign via Twitter last Wednesday, Florida Governor, Ron DeSantis sits in the exact same place that heâs remained for the last six months, which pleases no one more than the gang down at Mar-a-Lago:Â Â
Stuck between a rock and a MAGA place.Â
Following the less than stellar launch to his campaign, which has been described as robotic, disingenuous, lacking messaging and substance and even as just sad trombone noises, the DeSantis team is now scrambling to corral back some momentum they may have monetarily while distancing themselves from the awkward presidential kickoff and easing the concerns of their billionaire donors, all at the same time. Â
Dispatching Super PAC overseer, Ken Cuccinelli, Daily Wire Darling, Dave Rubin and former Trump attorney turned DeSantis cheerleader Jenna Ellis, Team DeSantis rejected, deflected and projected to the best of their (limited) abilities trying spin the Florida Governorâs failed kick-off and lack of national captivation as just âpro-Trump talking points,â while still hailing Ron DeSantis still as the man anointed to do what Hillary Clinton, the DNC, FBI, CIA, DHS, DOJ, both chambers of Congress and the former and current sitting democrat presidents all have attempted to do and failed to accomplish - take out the greatest political icon in the modern era, if not ever, Donald J. Trump. Â
Whether it was Cuccinelli, professing that Trump feared DeSantis, which is laughable; Rubin, pushing back on Megyn Kelly roasting him on how Rubin canât comprehend how Trumpâs supporters literally love him while describing DeSantisâ personality as âwooden,â amongst other things; or Ellis stating that her duty as a U.S. citizen made her morally obligated to no longer support Donald Trump (yes, she really said that on the Josh Hammer Show), you can only assume that as junior varsity squad from Tallahassee hit the road in two of the first five primary states, Iowa and South Carolina this weekend. They are already running on borrowed time and are up against the clock to make something, or anything that can ding Trump stick. Â
Good luck finding that silver bullet. Â
Donald Trump continues to rise in popularity and and favorability while continuing to have staying power both within the Republican Party and nationally without the help of the cooperate media, print press, lobby groups and international donor class. Â
The man cannot be bought, be persuaded and is unwavering in the face of dangled enrichments that become the downfall of so many political figures who have come before him. Â
Donald Trump doesnât need their spotlight, because he brings his own, wherever he goes. Â
The selfish and unprofessional way the DeSantis team has lashed out against MAGA online since Ronâs announcement is a tell of just how desperate they are by getting into the race when Trump holds such a commanding lead - online veterans of meme wars past best buckle up because this is going to be 2015 all over again and then some. Â
In an all hands on deck type fashion, everyone from registered foreign agent and DeSantis comms surrogate, Christina Pushaw to Babylon Bee founder turned paid client of DeSantis, Seth Dillon and even two-time failed Nevada senatorial candidate Adam Laxalt have desperately tried to force their way over control of the narrative. Although many, even the progressive outlets like Druge the NYT and Politico are suggesting it might already be too late to stop Trump from seizing a third, consecutive GOP nomination. Â
Meanwhile, and more recently, Trump walk-away and current DeSantis spokesman, Steve Cortes has publicly opposed DeSantis on the McCarthy-led, raising off the debt ceiling this week.
What all opposed parties involved are quickly learning, the especially those MAGA walk aways is that the 2024 Republican Primary was always going to be Donald Trumpâs show, and rest of the field was going to enter the race to write a book, make some money or jockey for the VP or future Trump administration cabinet position. They and their donors would be better off keeping their powder (and money) dry until the 2028 race begins.Â
In the case of Ron DeSantis, heâs just finished a book tour that the Florida Governor used a soft, campaign tax-free way to rollout his now official candidacy. A potential Vice President spot, is not likely to happen, nor is a cabinet seat, given Trumpâs commentary on DeSantis and regarding loyalty. Â
That leaves making money. Â
DeSantis is a career government worker who began his federal service in the military, rolled over to the U.S. Justice Department, parlayed that into a two and a half term seat in Congress as a Florida House Representative and then moved onto his current position, residing in the Governorâs mansion down in Tallahassee. Â
Maybe Ron DeSantis wants a little bit of national-level face time before settling into a paid commentator role on Fox News and Newmax. Maybe Casey DeSantis really does want to be a princess or a queen and sheâs been convinced that Ron is the knight in shining armor to get her on the throne. At the very least, theyâll be looking to upgrade their horse-drawn carriage seeing as their current method of transportation has been less than reliable on the road.
Regardless, the last option is to make money, and knowing now that the DeSantis campaign has the full and total backing of the corporate media and billionaire donor there is one thing that you can guarantee is going to come out of the 2024 GOP presidential primary race. Â
One way or another, it looks as if Governor Ron DeSantis is about to hit payday. Â
